As the body ages, the appearance and characteristics of the skin alter. Skin starts losing the elasticity and the layer of the skin become very thin, it sags.  Fine lines and wrinkles start to form.

Various factors contribute to the aging of the skin.  Aging is accelerated in those areas exposed to sunlight (ultraviolet radiation), a process known as photo aging Photo aging  is due to a combination of short wavelength (UVB) injury to the outside layers of the skin (epidermis) and long wavelength (UVA) to the middle layers (dermis). The aging changes are particularly apparent on the face, and occur at an early age for those who have spent much time outdoors.

Aging of the skin is also accelerated by smoking – long term smokers have more facial lines than non-smokers of the same age, and tend to have a yellowish sallow complexion. Smoking may also increase the chance of skin cancers.

So, one thing for sure:  As we age, we definitely get wrinkles!  But we can take proper care of the skin to slow down the process and minimize the damage.  It is very important to start an anti aging routine at a very young age.  It’s always easier to prolong wrinkles from forming than reverse the sign of aging, even though it can be done. Invest in an effective anti aging skin care system before the appearance of your first wrinkle!

Wrinkles may be treated a number of ways, such as:

• Chemical peels, which peels off top layers of skin to remove wrinkles, at the same time thinning out  your skin, making it easier damaged by sun light.

• Dermabrasion: a procedure that sands away to top layers of skin, also easier to get sun damaged.

• Laser surgery, which remove layers of skin: This procedure is used especially for wrinkles around the eyes.

• Botoxin: is used for wrinkles between eye brows and around the eyes.  The toxin is injected into the muscle that causes the wrinkles. It paralyzes or freezes the muscle, so that the wrinkles gradually disappear when the muscle is not in used.  It lasts about 3 to 6 months.

• Topical application of Vitamin C: a much safer and effective approach to reduce the appearance  of wrinkles. Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) is one of the few topical agents whose effectiveness against wrinkles and fine lines is backed by a fair amount of reliable scientific evidence.

It will be much more effective if you incorporate in your daily skin care routine using cleanser, toner, day and night cream that are made to combat wrinkles and defer the aging process, along with Vitamin C.  It’s possible to even reverse the sign of aging and take some years off your face!
